After our 3 week holiday, we made our way back home from the Western Cape – Stilbaai to Johannesburg, off course with 3 kids in the car we had to make a half way stop…and what an amazing experience. We stopped over at a guesthouse, just outside Colesburg South Africa named Ketelfontein. We were greeted with warmth by the owners Nicolaas and Mercia Vorster, and a yummy traditional South African dinner at the dining room table. All organic, out of the vegetable garden.Starter: an exquisite pea soup, Main course: leg of lamb, pumpkin with cinnamon, rice, roast potatoes, and the most delicious dessert, Malva Pudding with ice cream. The best of all, no television, no Internet, and no cell phone reception, what a pleasure!!
This farm is one of 3 farms in the Colesberg district that can pride themselves of 7 generations of ownership. The first owner was Izaak David Vorster that took ownership of the farm in the early 1830′s. All alterations were made with the original building material, and furniture from way back when.
