Our first wedding for the year in January started out pretty amazing. Jaco and I had the privilege to travel to Zanzibar where the wedding was held at Matemwe lodge. Our bridal couple Gina and Ross manage the resort and decided that it was the perfect spot for their wedding. I mean, really, what more can you ask for, a beautiful, stunning blue sea, the whitest of white beaches, a view to die for, sunshine and an amazing couple. Gina and Ross only had a handful of guests entertaining them at a beautiful setting on the beach.
When I asked Gina and Ross how they met, they admitted over Facebook. You see, they both have a love for horses, and their relationship bloomed over the web. Not too long and Gina decided to come and check out the prize horse that Ross had on display, so she flew all the was from England to South Africa to have a look for herself. I, on the other hand think she came over to check out Ross in secret and not the “prize horse”. To much of the relieve of Ross’s mom, she saw that Gina is absolutely, amazingly gorgeous and not the Russian bloke she suspected (You can never trust Facebook). From there their love bloomed and they both moved to Zanzibar to manage the exquisite lodge.
I must admit, this was the hottest wedding we ever did. When we arrived in Dar e Salaam it was a smoking 27 degrees, and this was 4am in the morning. Well there is always a first, and the first for me was to shoot the wedding in shorts and a t-shirt. Jaco was the lucky one and could hop into swimwear for the duration of the wedding, which also came in handy when he had to hop into the swimming pool for some creative photo’s. Gina had absolutely no problem to jump in the sea with her handmade French dress from “Grace loves lace”. We just love these kind of brides!
Samantha Gage Kruger was the make up artist (also flown in from Johannesburg) and she did a pretty amazing job. The thing is, to make make-up “stick” in that kind of weather you need a pretty good professional. Job well done Sam, and it was awesome to work with you.
